Doug and Betty Carrick spent many years deer farming in the Manawatu and Central Hawkes Bay, then sold up and went south looking for their next venture.
Eventually they discovered the Sportsmans Lodge and instantly fell in love with the place – the beautiful gardens, the camaraderie between guests and hosts, the atmosphere created by the games room and communal kitchen. They wanted to be part of it all so bought the Lodge with the aim of preserving the great friendly reputation the previous owners had built up.
